UPDATE: April 9, 2010
On March 29, 2010, the civil suit filed by the Beitas against ChristianGospelTemple, Pastor Steve Farmer and CGT Public Relations Representative Steven Brumfield was resolved amicably among the parties.
I want to be clear that I, Jennifer Meier- Beita, remain unwaveringly committed to holding the church, as well as all parties responsible for covering up sexual abuse against children, accountable.
I am deeply disappointed that CGT Leadership and Trustees still refuse to acknowledge the wrong done to me and to others, continuing to stand behind the public statements claiming “no wrongdoing” by the church in the matters of sexual abuse.
As victims, all we wanted was a sincere apology and the assurance that what happened to us will not happen to other children in the future. Instead, this became about covering up the cover-ups. The leaders of CGT appeared more concerned about how the community viewed them than making amends for the wrongs that have been committed.
I will never understand how leaders are able to declare publicly, “We want to be transparent,” while simultaneously hiding behind lies. How transparent was it to cut the live video feed from a service I attended only after I began to respond to those who stood and addressed me publicly? Todd Morrell (Trustee of CGT and spokesperson in the town hall meeting) stood up and stated to me publicly that he was sorry "IF" he had offended me. The live stream video continued uninterrupted, broadcasting all of Todd Morrell and John Stern’s words. However, the feed was abruptly cut when I began to speak. John Stern (Trustee) promised that he would allow me to have a copy of that service so that the other victims of sexual abuse could see and hear all that transpired. Subsequently, I was denied a copy of the recording and he would not return my calls, instead I received a call from Bob Richter informing me that I would not be given a copy.
There have been repeated cover-ups. And yet not one person, to my knowledge, has had the integrity to stand up to church leadership openly and say, ”ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.” This church group has taught the requirement of literal perfection for decades, stressing the absolute necessity of living as Christ lived. However, I do not see them doing what God has directed them to do in His Word.
Sadly, what I have witnessed is the number of people within this group who show no interest in or concern for the truth. This apathy does not begin and end with CGT; it includes the entire group of the Gospel Assembly Churches, founded by William Sowders. The majority of pastors in this group have demonstrated genuine concern ONLY when they view issues within CGT as a potential problem for themselves and their individual congregations.
For instance, they call for ministers’ meetings to address Steve Farmer’s recent “insurrection” in “allowing” the women of CGT to wear pants. However, after viewing many such meetings (either live-streamed or recorded on DVD), not ONE minister or pastor has held Steve Farmer or anyone else accountable for the lies told under oath in depositions (Lynette Fay vs. CGT).
In my opinion, these are not men of God. They are COWARDS!
Sadly, there are many people who have not received any type of closure for their past wounds. They continue to live with so much pain. I hope and pray for each of these individuals to find healing. It is shameful when supposed ‘men of God’ don't feel any conviction to repent to those they have hurt, or any responsibility for the lives that have been damaged. It is especially shameful when those same men have preached perfection to you from the pulpit.
